Hong Kong, November 2 (Xinhua) The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) jointly launched the 11th Asia Conference on Logistics, Shipping and Air Transport (Asia) on Tuesday. Hong Kong needs to take advantage of connectivity to seize opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, said Chief Executive Carrie Lam.The two-day conference will be held simultaneously at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and on the Internet.

In her opening speech via video link, Mrs Lam said Hong Kong's trade and logistics industry and the broader economy had shown strong resilience over the past two years and had recently shown clear signs of rebound. This is due to the restoration of social stability in Hong Kong after the implementation of the National Security Law, and the improvement of the electoral system to ensure that "patriots rule Hong Kong", thus improving Hong Kong's business environment.

Lam said that with the support of the central government, Hong Kong's logistics, shipping and air transport industries have seen great development opportunities. The logistics industry is central to the future of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Hong Kong should take advantage of its extensive network and connectivity to continue to strengthen the flow of logistics information and intermodal transport services and seize the opportunities of the Greater Bay Area.

Under the theme of "Resilient, Flexible and Sustainable Reshaping of Global Supply Chains", this year's conference will explore issues such as the new order of asia-pacific trade and the evolving intermodal network, e-commerce and the evolution of post-covid-19 retail, as well as new opportunities brought about by the 14th Five-Year Plan, said Ms Fong.

This year's conference added online and offline exhibitions to showcase different logistics technologies, including 5G technology for warehouse management, efficient smart logistics management solutions, effective international payment solutions, and the latest development of smart ports to provide users with the best business solutions.

A number of forums were also organised for participants to discuss how the industry could seize the opportunities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, how to move towards the future of smart air cargo, and Hong Kong's future as an international shipping centre.

In addition to the main venue in Hong Kong, the conference also has sub-venues in Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Wuhan to enhance interaction between participants from different cities. Some venues invite experts to share logistics related experience, and conduct physical exchanges and business matching activities.
